1. Fresh attacks on Benue communities

Armed persons on Thursday night reportedly attacked villages around Anyiin, a major town in Logo Local Government Area, of Benue state that serves as a base for special forces and has one of the biggest IDP camps.

2. PDP accuses Presidency of undue interest in Metuh’s trial

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the Presidency of unnecessary and undue interest in the on-going court trial of the former spokesperson of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh.

This comes in a statement on Wednesday by the PDP’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbodiyan, in direct response to tweets by a presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie on Metuh’s recent court appearance.

3. Osinbajo calls for state police

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has called for the establishment of state police as a way of improving security across the nation.

Osinbajo made the call on Thursday at a National Assembly security summit, noting that the state policing system is the way to go because having a centralized system – as is currently practised, cannot effectively secure the nation.

4. APC to hold National caucus and NEC meetings this month

The National caucus and the National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress will hold on February 26 and 27, 2018 respectively.

This was disclosed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdulllahi.

5. 2019: INEC requests EFCC to monitor politicians’ spendings

The Independent National Electoral Commission has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to monitor the sources of funding of politicial parities’campaigns as the 2019 general elections approach.

The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said this when the acting EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja on Thursday.

6. Herdsmen to pay for grazing reserves – Osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the herdsmen would pay for the proposed establishment of ranches or grazing reserves by the federal government.

He disclosed this on Thursday at the opening ceremony of a two-day summit on national security organised by the Senate in Abuja, stressing there are no plans to seize lands from the state governments.

7. Buhari promises to address alleged lop sided appointments

President Muhammadu Buhari says he will take a “second look” at allegations that he has not been following the federal character principle in his appointments.

He made the promise on Thursday while playing host to a delegation of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), led by Ignatius Kaigama, its president.

8. IPOB drags Army and Police chiefs before US court

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dragged the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, and 14 other Nigerian officials to a United States of America District Court over alleged complicity in the extra-judicial killings of its members.

IPOB alleged that the extra-judicial killings happened during protests over the arrest and detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

9. NAF to establish base in Taraba state

The Chief of the Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar, on Thursday disclosed plans by the Nigerian Air Force, (NAF), to establish a Forward Operational Base (FOB) in Taraba State, as part of plans to further tackle the incessant herdsmen-farmers clash in the country.

10. Eagles to earn $400,000 from CHAN outing

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially released the cash entitlements of all teams that participated at the 5th African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Official figures revealed champions, Morocco will earn $750,000 while second –placed Nigeria will pocket the sum of $400,000 and semi-finalists Sudan (eventual bronze medallists) and Libya to pocket the sum of $250,000 each.
