Two Police Officers Sacked For Alleged Involvement In Cultism

Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed two police officers in the state for their alleged involvement in cultism.

The State Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, who disclosed this on Tuesday during a visit to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, said the officers were currently facing trial.

However, he did not give out the identity of the dismissed officers.

Mr. Ogunjemilusi said he was in the Assembly to seek collaboration and support from the legislature towards fighting crime and criminalities.

He briefed the speaker that the command have arrested recently over 60 suspected cultists have been arrested recently in the state, 17 of them charged to court, while others were still being investigated.

The commissioner told the speaker that the police in the state did not have enough operational vehicles, and appealed to the state lawmakers to shun the act of covering the license plate number of their vehicles to enable the police track down culprits whenever a crime is committed.

In his remarks, the speaker, Mr. Luke assured the police chief of the lawmaker’s commitment and readiness to support them.

He also guaranteed that the lawmakers would review the state anti-cultism law and asked the commissioner to forward a memo to the House on the areas of the law he considered to be reviewed.

He said, “I want to give you our commitment that we are ready to work for the peace, order, and security of lives and property in Akwa Ibom State.”

“Let the long arm of the law takes its course, anyone caught involving in cultism should not be spared.”
