1. Army deploys troops in Benue, 5 other states to fight herdsmen attacks

The Nigerian Army has on Wednesday, announced that it will begin ‘Exercise Ayem Akpatuma’ targeted at curbing the killings, kidnappings and herdsmen/farmers’ clashes in Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Niger states.

It disclosed the exercise would run from February 15 to March 31, 2018

2. Senate rejects committee report on Benue killings

The Senate has rejected a report of its adhoc committee set up to look into circumstances surrounding the killings in Benue state.

The Senators said the committee failed to give Gov. Samuel Ortom a fair hearing.

3. Reps order IGP to apologize to Samuel Ortom

The House of Representatives has directed the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to apologise to Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

This follows a statement by force public relations officer, Jimoh Moshood in which he labelled Governor Ortom a ‘drowning man’.

4. EFCC re-arrests INEC officials over Diezani bribe

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday arrested two former officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission who are being tried for alleged bribery.

Nwosu Christian, and Tijani Bashiru the two officials, were picked up on the premises of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

5. I have no anointed candidate for 2019 elections – Obasanjo

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that his decision not to participate in partisan politics remain unchanged and he won’t impose any candidate on the citizens of the country.

He said this when he hosted a youth group from Delta state at the Olusegun Obasanjo presidential library in Abeokuta.

6. Senate summons defence minister over invasion by Cameroonian soldiers

The Senate yesterday, summoned the Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Mansur Dan Ali (rtd), over the recent invasion of some border communities in Cross River State, by Cameroonian soldiers.

Senator John Enoh said the soldiers entered Nigeria illegally several times in search of separatist agitators and attacked locals in the process.

7. DSS invites Kassim Afegbua, IBB’s spokesperson

The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Kassim Afegbua, spokesman of former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd).

The invitation came via a telephone call from DSS and it asked Afegbua to be at its headquarters no later than 11a.m. Thursday.

8. I have parted ways with Kwankwaso – Ganduje

The Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has written off the possibility of reconciling with his predecessor and former governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.

He made the insinuation on Wednesday and urged his supporters to work for the victory of APC in the 2019 polls.

9. I am tired of this calamity – Shekau declares

Abubakar Shekau, leader of the Boko Haram Islamic sect has said in a new video that he is tired of the calamity befalling his group.

In the video, delivered chiefly in Hausa, Mr. Shekau couldn’t hide his frustration on the continued hostility and loss of his supporters to government troops.

10. Gov. Wike donates N200m to victims of Benue killings

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, has paid a condolence visit to Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, over the persistent attack committed by suspected herdsmen in the state.

He used the occasion to donate N200 million to victims of the killings in the state.
