Traditionally, February 14 is recognized and celebrated world over as a lovers’ day, popularly referred to as Valentine day.

February 14 falls on a Wednesday this year and is the 45th day of the year in the Gregorian calendar, which means on the day,there are 320 days remaining until the end of the year.

How the day is celebrated is however not straight jacketed- It is entirely up to those celebrating to determine how they enjoy the day.

Valentine’s day also known as St. Valentine’s Day is an annual holiday now celebrated in relation to romantic love but with origins in martyrdom of a Roman priest with many versions of the story.

The concentrated marketing effort attached to the day has made it a day to look forward to as lovers and fun seekers purchase gifts and throng parks, beaches, restaurants, stores, malls and various other places where they can have fun.

Ash Wednesday: It dates back to the 11th century and represents the first day of lent – a period of fasting by Christian faithfuls which precedes the Easter Celebration.

It represents a day of sober reflection and traditionally, ash is used to mark the forehead to show sorrow for Jesus’s crucifixion.

Champions League: A crucial fixture in the 2017/2018 UEFA Champions league comes up on the same day as Spanish giants, Real Madrid take on French giants, PSG in the first leg of their quarter final pairing.

International Book Giving Day: Since 2012, February 14 has also been recognized as international book giving day.
