Shehu Sani Sends Message To Nigerian Youths Ahead Of February 25th

Senator Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani representing All Progressives Congress (APC) Kaduna Central, yesterday, lamented the spate of killings in the country, saying armed bandits had taken over Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Sani said killings in the last three months in the country imply that President Muhammadu Buhari was losing grip of governance.

The senator at the plenary, blasted those he described as opportunists in the Aso Rock Villa, who have refused to tell Nigerians the truth that Buhari was failing in governing the nation, calling on them to put politics aside and save Nigerians from being killed by heavily armed bandits.

He called on the federal government to deploy soldiers permanently in Birni Gwari and Chikun local government areas of Kaduna State, saying the areas have been under firm control of armed bandits in the last two years.

Sani said: “I have an issue in a local government in one of my constituencies; it is called Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. This local government borders on the states of Zamfara, Kebbi, and Niger.

‘’This local government in the last two to three years, has been under siege of armed herdsmen and bandits. Bandits have made life intolerable to the people of that part of the state. Many villages in this local government have been sacked, farmers don’t go to their farms nowadays. Many of the citizens residing in that local government are now in the capital.

“Of concern is the fact that killings and abduction have become a daily affair; it is one issue not being able to get the national attention of the global spotlight.

“I am deeply concerned that the government is losing grip that we cannot guarantee the safety of lives and property in this country, and I think we have lost the essence of our being in government.

“It is time to put politics aside and focus on the issue of insecurity. People that are privileged to move to the Villa should please spare us the time of telling the truth to the people in power that things are getting worse and there is a need for us to do what we need to do.”

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary, in his remarks called on the Federal Government to step up the protection of lives and property.

He also urged the government to ensure that the brutal killings across the country is tackled

“So, I want to appeal to the government to step up our responsibilities to ensure that we protect our people because once these things are happening, it will be affecting us internationally in terms of our public relations; in terms of our direct foreign investment, and then the confidence our people have in government will be eroded,” he said.
