1. Nigeria pays $496m to acquire 12 tucano jets from USA

The Nigerian government has paid the United States government $496 million for the acquisition of 12 Super Tucano fighter jets to be used by the Nigerian Air Force in the ongoing military operations against the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-east.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Defence, Brig.-Gen. Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd.), at the special town hall meeting held for the military and security agencies in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

2. Metuh appears in court on a stretcher

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Olisa Metuh, facing trials for alleged money laundering, has appeared in court on a stretcher.

Metuh was wheeled to court today, Monday, following the threat by Justice Okon Abang to revoke his bail if he fails to appear in court today.

3. Herdsmen attack Gov Ortom’s farm

Suspected herdsmen, yesterday, attacked Waku village and a part of Gbajimba town, all in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, killing two persons, and destroying Governor Samuel Ortom’s farm house in fresh attacks in the area.

4. EFCC recovers N473.065bn in 2017

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission recovered stolen funds totalling N473.065bn in 2017, the Acting Chairman of the commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, told the House of Representatives on Monday in Abuja.

Magu made the disclosure when he appeared before the House Committee on Financial Crimes to defend the agency’s 2018 budget proposals and review the performance of the 2017 allocations.

5. Boko Haram attack Borno village

Barely two days after the Nigerian Army announced that Boko Haram has been totally defeated, the insurgents have unleashed another attack on Kala village, opposite the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Dalori, Borno State.

One person was reportedly killed and others injured in the attack.

6. PDP kicks against planned sales of state assets by Kogi government

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kogi has kicked against the alleged plans by the Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration to sell off 10 of the state’s properties to finance the N151 billion budget of the state for 2018.

The properties are all located in highbrow areas of Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna and Lokoja, the state capital.

7. Watford humiliate Chelsea

Watford, yesterday defeated Chelsea in style as the two clubs clashed in a premier league clash at the Vicarage road on Monday.

The 4-1 victory over Chelsea ended their 13 match winless run against the Blues.
