1. IBB confirms statement urging Buhari not to contest 2019 elections
Former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, has confirmed to This Day that he issued the statement in which he opined that Nigeria needs a new breed of leaders come 2019 elections.
This follows the controversy that trailed the counter statement in which he purportedly withdrew his earlier statement.
2. Obasanjo’s coalition cannot stop PDP in 2019 – Secondus
National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus has stated that the Chief Obasanjo sponsored coalition for Nigeria can’t stop the party from winning the 2019 elections.
He disclosed that the party is fine tuning strategies ahead of the 2019 general elections.
3. IGP orders arrest of IBB’s spokesperson
The Inspector General of Police, has ordered the arrest of Afegbua, spokesperson to former military head of state, Ibrahim Babangida, should he fail to turn himself in within 24 hours.
Afegbua is been accused of issuing a fake statement.
4. No need for $1bn excess crude oil fund to fight Boko Haram- Fayose
Governor Ayodele Fayose has questioned the need to progress with plans to withdraw $1bn from the excess crude account to fight insurgency.
This follows a declaration by the army that Boko Haram has been completely destroyed.
5. Politicians thread cautiously with regards to Obasanjo’s Coalition
Reports have emerged suggesting several presidential aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are currently assessing how the Olusegun Obasanjo-inspired Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) might affect or influence their chances at the 2019 polls.
So far, former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Donald Duke seem like the top most politicians to have openly identified with the coalition.
6. FG has created over seven million jobs – Lai Mohammed
Minister of information and culture, Alh Lai Mohammed has over the weekend, revealed that the federal government has created over 7 million jobs in the agricultural sector alone.
He said the government has created several job opportunities across various segments of the economy.
7. Morocco defeats Nigeria in CHAN finals
The Super Eagles of Nigeria were comprehensively beaten by their Moroccan counterparts in yesterday’s CHAN finals.
The Eagles were outplayed in all departments of the field and fell by four goals to zero to emerge runners up in the tournament.
