Fire Razes Property Worth Millions In Daura

Fire has destroyed property worth N2.6 million in Gurjiya village in Daura Local Government area of Katsina State.

The fire started this morning at about 8:47am and destroyed 10 locally made grains store, five cows, 25 goats, 30 chickens and a residential apartment, but no life was lost.

Malam Abdulmumini Shuaibu, the Officer in-Charge of the Fire Service Sub Unit in the local council disclosed this in Daura, saying it took his men six hours to quench the fire.

However, the cause of the fire was yet to be known.

The fire officer said that the people in the local government would be enlightened on preventive measures against fire outbreak, warning the villagers against careless handling of fire and other inflammable substances.

Malam Lawal Daura, Head of the Council Veterinary Unit, said that 31 animals which include, five cows and 26 goats are currently receiving treatment in his unit as a result of the burns they sustained from the inferno.

The acting Chairman of the council, Alhaji Lawal Kado, sympathized with the victims of the fire incident and added that the council has forwarded report of the incident to the State Emergency Management Agency and the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for prompt intervention.
