1. South East APC leaders endorse Buhari for second term

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, hosted South East APC leaders at the presidential villa in Abuja.

The president promised to be fair in his dealings with all Nigerians while the APC leaders promised their support should he decide to contest 2019 presidential elections.

2. Osinbajo leads Nigeria’s delegation to George Weah’s inauguration as Liberia’s president

51-year old ex-football star, George Weah, was yesterday inaugurated as the 25th president of West African country, Liberia.

A Nigerian delegation led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and which included former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Senate President Bukola Saraki and several other dignitaries, witnessed the hand over ceremony in Liberia.

3. 16m Nigerians unemployed in third quarter of 2017 – report

A report from the National Bureau of Statistics revealed up to 16 million Nigerians were unemployed as at the third quarter of 2017.

According to the NBS’ Labour Force Statistics Volume 2: Employment by Sector Report for Third Quarter of 2017, which was released in Abuja Monday, those who worked less than 20 hours a week and those who did absolutely nothing were classified as unemployed.

4. EFCC reports 3 judges to NJC for alleged misconduct

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has petitioned the National Judicial Council over the alleged misconduct of three judges.

The judges are: Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa and Justice Agbadu Fishim.

5. 16 states volunteer land for cattle colonies

16 northern states have so far, volunteered to provide land for the establishment of the cattle colonies in their respective states.

They are: Adamawa, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, Nasarawa and Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Niger, Kogi and Kwara states.

So far, no southern state has obliged the federal government’s request for land.

6. Central Bank Injects $210m Into Currency Market

Nigeria’s central bank said on Monday it had injected $210 million into the interbank foreign exchange market, extending efforts to boost liquidity and alleviate dollar shortages.

7. PDP to wait for APC candidate before choosing 2019 presidential candidate

The immediate past caretaker chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, has said that his party will wait for the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to emerge before presenting a strategy to defeat the candidate, insisting that any candidate, including President Muhammadu Buhari, will be roundly defeated by the PDP in the 2019 general election.

8. Court to hear Evans the kidnapper’s application on February 28

The late arrival of the defence counsel on Monday again stalled the arraignment of suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a Evans, on fresh charges at an Igbosere High Court in Lagos

Justice Adedayo Akintoye, however, adjourned the case until Feb. 28 for the hearing of the application to quash charge.

9. Banky W and Adesua hold London thanksgiving service

Celebrity couple, Banky W and Adesua Etomi, have over the weekend, held a wedding thanksgiving service in London, United Kingdom.

Reports have it that Adesua’s mom resides in London where she also serves as a pastor of a church.

10. Alexis Sanchez joins Manchester United to become premier league highest earner

The much publicized transfer of Chilean star, Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal to Manchester United was officially concluded yesterday.

The deal sees Henrikh Mkhitaryan move in the other direction to Arsenal.
