Community leader kidnapped in Rivers state.

Two children of Yahaya Chado, the member representing Maradun/Bakura Federal Constituency, Zamfara State, have been abducted.

The Zamfara Police confirmed the incident on Monday stating that they were kidnapped by unknown armed men.

Speaking with newsmen in Gusau on Manday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Shehu, said the children were kidnapped after the gunmen ambushed the lawmaker’s home village at Gora in Maradun Local Government.

Stating that the attack occurred around one a.m. on Monday, Shehu revealed that three persons were murdered and four others sustained injuries.

One of the villagers, Kabiru Mai-Kwashe, disclosed to NAN that the kidnappers invaded the village on 20 motorcycles, with each motorcycle conveying two armed persons.

He said: “They shot sporadically in the air before going to the house of their victims.

“The gunmen forcefully took away the two victims, Muhammad Yahaya, 27, and his elder brother, Junaidu Yahaya, who is about 35 years old.”

Mai-Kwashe added that after the gunmen left the house, they shot and killed six persons and wounded four others.

He also said one of those abducted later returned with a telephone number apparently given by the kidnappers instructing his father to contact them “if he wants to see his eldest son again.”

The kidnappers had demanded a N10 million ransom before they would release the victim, NAN reports.

The police spokesman said a combined team of police and military personnel had been deployed to conduct extensive search for the gunmen and rescue the victim.

He added that said those killed and wounded during the attack had been taken to Maradun General Hospital.
