A fire which broke out Sunday night at the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Mabera in Sokoto metropolis, completely razed down one of the school’s hostel.

The inferno reportedly destroyed several valuables but eighty female students resident in the hostel, all escaped with their lives.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the four-room A’isha hostel and valuables were burnt but no student was hurt.

The combined efforts of officials of the State Fire Service and other security personnel ensured the fire, suspected to have originated from electrical sparks was put out eventually.

The leadership of the school, refused to speak on the fire incident, saying that they have no authority to entertain media inquiry.

Efforts to speak to officials of the state Ministry Education and state Fire Service were unsuccessful as they failed to pick phone calls and did not reply text messages.
