Benue Killings: Senate Gives IGP 14-Day Ultimatum To Arrest Assailants

The Senate has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, to arrest the perpetrators of the Benue attacks which resulted in at least the death of 73 persons.

Upon resumption of plenary for the first time in 2018, the Upper and the Lower chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday, criticised the gruesome attacks allegedly carried out by herdsmen.

The House of Representatives also stated that an ad-hoc committee would be constituted to investigate the killings in Benue and other states of the nation and file in a report in four weeks.

Meanwhile, the IGP arrived Benue State last Wednesday, as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s to ensure law and order and prevent further loss of lives and properties in Benue.

The IGP disclosed that three counter-terrorism units have been assigned to the state, along with mobile policemen.

Idris also assured that everyone behind the incessant killings will be brought to book.
