1. President Buhari appeals for calm in Benue state

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Abuja called on the government and people of Benue State to exercise restraint following the recent attacks on some communities.

He said this while playing host to a delegation of political leaders, traditional rulers and elders of the state led by Governor Samuel Ortom at the Presidential Villa.

2. Buhari, Osinbajo, others honour fallen heroes

President Muhammadu Buhari, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, laid wreaths to mark the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration at the National Arcade, Abuja.

This officially makes the end of this year’s armed forces remembrance day.

3. Lagos gas explosion kills two, several others injured

Residents of the Magodo Estate area of Lagos state, woke up on Monday to a fire incident caused by explosions at Second Coming – a gas company located in the area.

Two people reportedly lost their lives in the accident while several others were injured.

4. Crude oil prices hit $70 per barrel

Crude oil price hits $70 per barrel Monday despite surging production by the United States, which is offset by the production cuts led by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and Russia.

The international benchmark Brent crude futures rose above $70 per barrel earlier in the session before trading at $69.69 per barrel.

5. Decomposing body of kidnapped Taraba lawmaker found

The decomposing body of Mr. Hosea Ibi, member representing Takum I in Taraba State House of Assembly, who was kidnapped on December 30, 2017, was found dead at the old site of SCC (Kwari) along Takum Kashimbila Road in Takum Local Government Area of the state, yesterday.

The discovery comes 16 days after he was kidnapped by unknown gunmen from his house, opposite Ada Barracks in Takum, the headquarters of Takum Local Government Area of the state.

6. EFCC in fresh move to take over Patience Jonathan’s $8.4m, N7.3bn

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has launched a fresh move to seize funds in 15 bank accounts linked with the wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience.

The funds, which the EFCC is seeking to seize, include a total of $8,435,788.84 and over N7.35bn.

7. Ekiti bans former governor, Fayemi from holding public office

Ekiti State Government yesterday banned former governor of Ekiti State and Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his finance commissioner, Mr. Dapo Kolawole, from holding any public office in the state and Nigeria for 10 years.

The state government took the decision following the acceptance of the report of the white paper on the Judicial Panel of Inquiry by the Ekiti State Executive Council.

8. Donald Duke may contest 2019 presidential elections

Former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has stated that under the right conditions, he may contest for Nigeria’s presidency in 2019.

He stated this while speaking as the guest speaker at the 3rd Mike Omotosho Annual Lecture in Abuja.

9. EPL: Manchester United defeat Stoke City

Manchester United defeated Stoke City by 3 goals to nil in a premiership game played yesterday at Old Trafford.

The win closes the gap at the top of the table to 12 points.

10. CHAN 2018: Nigeria plays goalless draw with Rwanda

The home-based Super Eagles opened their 2018 CHAN Tournament taking place in Morocco with a 0-0 draw against the Rwanda team.

The CHAN Eagles hit the woodwork three times in the course of the game.
