Dispatch Rider Disappears With Employer’s N1.1m

Olayemi Olalekan, a 42-year-old dispatch rider, has been arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing his employer’s N1.1 million.

The accused however, pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing levelled against him.

In her ruling, Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghre, released the accused on bail in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate ruled that the sureties must show evidence of means of livelihood and acceptable identification cards.

Speaking earlier, the Police Prosecutor, ASP Ibijoke Akinpelu told the court that the offence was committed between November and December 2017 at 56B, Moleye St., Alagomeji Yaba.

Giving further details, Akinpelu disclosed that Olalekan, who was hired as a dispatch rider by MAX Delivery Ltd to deliver parcels to customers, had failed to remit monies paid by customers into the company’s account, but has diverted the cash totalling N1.1 million to personal use.

The offence contravened Section 287 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised) and is punishable by up to seven years imprisonment for offenders.

The case has been adjourned until March 7 for trial.
