Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has sympathized with the Benue government and the people of the state on the mass burial of innocent victims of alleged herdsmen attacks on New Year day.

Ekweremadu described yesterday, which was the day of the burial of the 73 victims, as a “black Thursday,” while also praying for the repose of the souls of the dead victims.

He said: “My heartfelt condolences go to the government and people of Benue State as the victims of suspected herdsmen attacks are committed to mother earth.

“This is a black Thursday (yesterday), not only for the people of Benue state, but for the entire nation and will remain a sorrowful mark in our history.

“I join fellow Nigerians to pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the victims and also, pray God to comfort those who lost their loved ones, let me add that we must avert such future occurrences by urgently rethinking our security system.”
