Femi Falana, lawyer to the detained Shiites leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, has disclosed his client is alive but in need of urgent medical attention.

Falana made the disclosure in reaction to rumours of Mr. El-Zakzaky’s death which hit the social media on Friday.

Zakzaky and his wife, have been in custody of security operatives of the Nigerian government since December 2015.

Zakzaky’s lawyer also submitted that bullet from gun shots to El-Zakzaky’s wife’s body is yet to be removed since 2015.

“Clinically he (El-Zakzaky) is not dead yet. But he is very very sick.”

“He has lost an eye, he is in the process of losing the other one. He has developed stroke in detention.

“Bullets in the wife’s body have not been removed since 2015.”

“Regulation 12 of the Prisons Act that law has been there since 1917; even convicts can be handed over to their families for treatment when the state can no longer provide such,” Mr. Falana said.

Since his arrest and subsequent detention, several of El-Zakzaky’s group members have constantly organized protests demanding for the release of their leader.
