Insecurity: Creating State Police Will Be A Mistake – Ex-IGP Idris

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has today, Wednesday arrived Makurdi as directed on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari had instructed the IG to move to Benue State to ensure law and order returns to the state and as well prevent further loss of lives and forestall the crisis from escalating.

Naija News recalls that armed men alleged to be herdsmen had on New Year day attacked and killed over 50 persons in Logo and Guma local government areas of Benue.

In a statement by the Police Spokesman, CSP Jimoh Moshood, said the directive came on the heels of the recent gruesome killings of innocent people in Guma and Logo.

Moshood said: “More Units of the Police Special Forces, Counter Terrorism Units, and Conventional Policemen are already being deployed to the State to comply in totality with the Presidential order.

“The full weight of the law will be applied on anyone arrested for being responsible for the mayhem in the affected areas in the state.

He added that; “The commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure Law and order and protection of lives and property of all Nigerians throughout the country remains unequivocal and unwavering.”

The I-G, who arrived Makurdi around 10 a.m. proceeded straight to Zone 4 Police Command.

On arrival at the command, the police chief was welcomed by the Assist Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the zone, Benue Commissioner of Police and other senior Police Officers.
