1. Federal government to implement minimum wage this year – Ngige

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has disclosed that the federal government will implement the new minimum wage this year.

He also disclosed states are at liberty to pay workers above the fixed minimum wage.

2. Army kills notorious kidnapper, Don Waney

The remains of the notorious kidnapper and militant, Don Waney has arrived at the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt.

Don Waney, whose real name is Prince Igwedibia, was allegedly involved in the new year killing of up to 17 persons in Rivers state.

3. Kogi sacks 1,774 workers, 8 permanent secretaries

The Kogi State Government on Sunday confirmed the retirement of eight permanent secretaries, some directors and the dismissal of 1,774 employees from the state civil service.

Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Mrs. Petra Akinti-Onyegbule, defended the action, saying it was a part of the ongoing reforms in the civil service.

4. Boko Haram has been defeated – Buratai

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Yusuf Buratai, yesterday, declared troops in the North-East, have won the war against Boko Haram insurgents.

He also reiterated Army’s commitment to the restoration and maintenance of peace in the area.

5. Buhari and Osinbajo to attend APC mega rally in Abia

All is now set for the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Odigie Oyegun and other party chiefs to attend a mega rally of the APC in Abia State.

This was disclosed by the party’s publicity secretary in the state, Ben Godson who also sated that the governorship slot in the state will not be zoned to the any area.

6. Governor Ortom cries out over Fulani herdsmen attack in the state

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, has in the light of the herdsmen attack on farmers in the state, accused President Muhammadu Buhari of abandoning him and the people of the state.

He claimed government has not done enough to tackle the security situation in the state.

7. Kidnapped catholic sisters regain freedom from their abductors

Some women, including three catholic sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Convent, have regained freedom from those who kidnapped them.

The victims were in their abductors den for 53 days before they were released.

8. El-Rufai threatens to sack teachers who go on strike

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state, has threatened to dismiss from service, any teacher that joins in the planned strike action.

A statement by his media aide, Samuel Aruwan said such strike action will be deemed illegal and treated as such.

9. PDP disagrees with APC, FG over planned fuel subsidy

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), has disagreed with the APC led federal government over proposed plans been put forward by the federal government to curtail the incessant fuel crises in the country.

Under the new proposal made by the federal government, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) would be allowed to continue to sell at subsidised rate of N145 per litre in its few mega stations across the country while the independent marketers should be allowed to sell at whatever price that is profitable to them in all their outlets.

10. Forest dumps Arsenal out of the English FA cup

Defending champions, Arsenal were yesterday knocked out of the English FA cup by lowly rated Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners suffered a shocking 4-2 defeat away at Forest.
