Bank building gutted by fire in Delta State

Fire has gutted a part of the Fidelity bank building, located within the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), Delta State.

The building was razed in the early hours of Wednesday resulting in a panic situation among residents of the area.

The fire which came from a caravan operating outside the premises of the bank was said to have hit the bank as a result of the early morning harmattan haze.

However, the cause of the fire from the caravan is yet to be ascertained.

The inferno was put out by  of some members of the Independent Products Marketing Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the fire service department of the nearby WRPC, saving some other parts of the bank from being burnt to the ground.

A source close to the scene of the incident, recounted what he witnessed.

He said: “As you can see, the harmattan has been very severe especially in the past one week or so. And from what we gathered it was the electrical fault which sparkled off fire from the caravan that was aided by the harmattan haze which affected the bank building”.

“But thank God we are able to come to rescue of the bank before it escalate further. It took the collective efforts of both the IPMAN members that were close by and the fire fighters of the WRPC to bring the fire under control”.

Calm had been restored in the area as at the Wednesday evening, with the bank left to count its losses.
