Fuel Scarcity: Senate Suspends Recess, Summons Kachikwu, Baru
Senate summons petroleum stakeholders over lingering fuel crisis.
Senate President Bukola Saraki, on Thursday, directed the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) to suspend its recess and immediately organise a meeting with relevant stakeholders to discuss the way forward on the ongoing fuel crisis in the country.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Senator Kabiru Marafa, who disclosed this in Abuja, said the committee has invited the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Maikanti Baru and other key stakeholders in the petroleum sector to a meeting.
Marafa said that the meeting will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 in the Senate Hearing Room 221 and its proceedings will be aired live on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
According to him, the meeting will address the lingering fuel scarcity crisis facing the country in the last few weeks in a bid to put an end to it.
The Senate, presently on break will resume Committee work for budget defence on January 9, and commence plenary on January 16.
