The Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Tuesday challenged the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, to tell Nigerians the role he played in the emergence of Yakubu Dogara as his successor.

Gbajabiamila, according to Punch, said this in Abuja at an event to celebrate Dogara’s 50th birthday and the unveiling of a book, titled,  Dogara: A Real Made Flint.

Dogara succeeded Tambuwal as the Speaker of the House on June 9, 2015. He defeated Gbajabiamila, the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) candidate to win the election, with only eight votes margin.

Tambuwal, the former speaker who eventually became the Sokoto State Governor reportedly mobilized support for Dogara, and worked against his close friend, Gbajabiamila.

Naija News learnt that Gbajabiamila had worked for the emergence of Tambuwal as the speaker in 2011 and he expected Tambuwal to return the favour in 2015, but he was disappointed when the governor supported Dogara instead.

While speaking on Tuesday at the event, Gbajabiamila challenged Tambuwal to tell the truth on the role he played in making Dogara his successor.

He said, “Since the speakership contest, nobody can really say this is the role Tambuwal played. But, with this book, I believe we should be able to know. He has not been able to tell anybody the role he played.

“Maybe, he should be the one to tell us now. Nobody has been able to pin him (Tambuwal) down to state the role he played.”

It was learnt that laughter broke out as Gbajabiamila gave the challenge but Tambuwal did not speak on the issue, instead he merely joined others in laughing.

Naija News learnt further that over N300m was raised at the event which is to be donated to charity, especially the internally displaced persons.

Nigerian business tycoon, Aliko Dangote donated N100 million, other major donors were by Capt. Idahosa Okunbo, N50m; and Chief Emeka Offor, N20m; the governors of Bauchi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Edo and Borno states donated N10m each.

In his remark, Dogara said that the money raised at the event would be utilized to improve the well-being of the IDPs and to fund charity.
