Gov. Yari Reacts to Buhari Govt’s Ban On Mining

Gov. Yari is not from Zamfara State – Sen. Marafa

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum, Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC, Zamfara), has alleged before the Senate that Governor Abdulaziz Yari is not an indigene of Zamfara State.

The two politicians had a quarrel over a nominee of President Muhammadu Buhari for Resident Electoral Commission of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Ahmad Bello Mahmud.

Governor Yari had maintained his stance that the nominee meant to represent Zamfara in INEC ought not to be confirmed by the Senate. Whereas Marafa argued that he should be allowed to represent Zamfara.

Naija News recalls that last month, the Senate Committee on INEC, recommended the rejection of the nominee, which the Senate approved.

Senator Marafa raised a point of order on Thursday claiming that Yari’s parents, as well as the nominee, were not indigenes Zamfara State.

He said, “It is very clear that the only opposition to this nominee is coming from the Governor of Zamfara State who wrote to the president that the nominee is not from Zamfara State but from Sokoto State.

“The governor’s parents are not from Zamfara State.”

However, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki guaranteed Marafa that justice would be done on the matter.
