Nigeria records 61 cases of mokey pox

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has released a situation report on the monkeypox disease.

The agency announced that 61 confirmed cases of monkeypox and reported the first death from the disease.

The agency’s report for the epidemiological week 49, released on Wednesday, said the deceased patient was a confirmed case with background immune-compromised condition.

NCDC also noted that there has been a decline in the number of new suspected cases reported over the last five weeks.

The agency also said in the report that it has deactivated the monkeypox Emergency Operations Centre, EOC, this week.

It added that response to the disease will here on be coordinated by “a technical working group” comprising of all existing response partners.
