Rosicky retires from football

Czech Republic international and former Arsenal player, Tomas Rosicky, has decided to call time on his playing career by retiring from professional football.

He announced his retirement at a press conference on Wednesday.

The 37-year old player enjoyed an impressive playing career at Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Sparta Prague.

Rosicky cited the inability of his body to meet the rigours of professional football as reason for retiring from the game.

“After careful consideration, I have realised I am no longer able to fully prepare my body for what professional football requires,” he said.

“I would like to thank Sparta for raising me, for being the first step in my career in big clubs, and for allowing me to say goodbye at the place I love the most.”

He cut short his contract at Prague which was supposed to run until June 2018.

He retired from international football in 2016 having scored 23 goals in 105 appearances for his country.
