At least 26 customs officers have reportedly been killed by Boko Haram terrorists in different attacks,

This Day reports that this was revealed by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday, December 20.

Mr. Joshua Angbalaga who is the comptroller of the service in Borno and Yobe States said Boko Haram activities have affected them in the discharge of their duties effectively in the north east.

He said only one of the 13 economic borders is functioning optimally with another one running skeletal service.

He explained that this has affected the revenue of the command.

Angbalaga said the “border at Gaidam in Yobe State is functional while the other in Gamboru, Borno is functioning skeletally.”

He said until the army completely crush the insurgency, the 13 economic borders across Borno and Yobe States would remain closed.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian army recorded another major success in the fight against insurgency in the northeastern part of the country as its troops launched an attack against the Boko Haram terrorists

A statement by Colonel Timothy Antigha, the deputy director of public relations of the 8 division Nigerian army, revealed that the success was in continuation of Operation Deep Punch 2, designed to smoke out Boko Haram terrorists inhabiting remote islands in Lake Chad basin lying within Nigerian territory.

He said troops of the division on Operation Lafiya Dole, and supported by soldiers of the Armed Forces Strike Group (AFSG) inflicted heavy casualty on the terrorists and recovered weapons and vehicles abandoned by the insurgents.
