Benue Police confirms 4 deaths in community clash

About four people have been confirmed dead, following a renewed crisis in Ogobia town, in Ugboju community of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Confirming the deaths on Sunday, State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu, revealed that violence occured in the area, resulting in the death of three persons Saturday night, after which another injured person died on Sunday morning.
Yamu said “Yes, there was a clash that claimed the lives of three persons yesterday (Saturday) night and another injured person gave up today (yesterday), making four deaths in all. Normalcy has been restored, as more patrol teams have been deployed in the area to support the ones that have been there since the August mayhem in that area.”

The PPRO noted that the police were yet to ascertain the cause of the killings, he said, however, it may not be unconnected with the earlier crisis that happened in August, in which several people, including a retired Army Major, and a retired police officer, were killed.

“It is likely that yesterday’s clash and killing are connected to what happened in the area recently, but we have commenced full investigations, with a view to bringing the killers to book,” said the PPRO.

Naija News  recalls that in August, a crisis, which was allegedly caused by two brothers rocked the Ondo and Ogobia communities of Ugboju, in Otukpo Local Government Area of the state.

Although, Governor Samuel Ortom had given marching order to security operatives to arrest the two brothers for their alleged involvement in the crisis, only one of them was arrested, while the other person is still at large.
