EFCC-DSS Clash: Senate holds hearing behind closed doors

A Senate Adhoc Committee has held a closed-door meeting with Acting Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ibrahim Magu; Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Acting Director General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Mohammed Dauda on Thursday.

NAija News recalls that the Committee was instituted to investigate the recent scuffle before the three security agencies over an earlier attempt to arrest the former DG of DSS, Ita Ekpenyong.

Chaired by Senator Francis Alimikhena, the Senate adhoc committee is expected to investigate the circumstances that led to the scuffle between DSS, EFCC and NIA in November at Maitama district of Abuja.

The meeting was held behind closed doors as a result of the plea of DSS Director General who appealed that the media is excused and the hearing be held behind closed-doors. The committee consequently agreed to the request.

However, before the closed-door meeting began, Magu noted that no street fight occurred between the EFCC and other security agencies at Ekpenyong’s residence.

He clarified that his men went there to execute a search warrant on the premises but they were prevented by the DSS and NIA, hence, the left the premises.

In attendance at the hearing were the Director General, Department of State Services, Mr. Lawal Daura; Acting Chairman, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu; and Acting Director General, NIA, Mr. Mohammed Dauda. Daura, Magu and Dauda, who arrived the venue before members of the committee were present.
