Afaraukwu Community Leaders Ask Buhari For Kanu’s Whereabouts

Demands to know the whereabouts of the father of Nnamdi Kanu, the traditional ruler of Afaraukwu Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Israel Kanu, have been made by traditional rulers from three communities in Afaraukwu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.

Nnamdi Kanu is the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The traditional leaders are requesting that a panel of inquiry to probe the role of the Nigerian Army in the invasion of Eze Kanu’s residence.

The Okwulaga Enyiukwu and Isiama autonomous communities had petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari,

Alleging that they were yet to see HRH Kanu; his wife, Lolo Sally; and some of his subjects following the invasion of his palace on September 14 by the military, the Okwulaga Enyiukwu and Isiama autonomous communities had petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari.

The petition was signed by the President-Generals of the three autonomous communities in Afara clan – Levi Ogbonna, Cletus Uwaechi and Chief Ikechukwu Ndubueze.

The rulers stated in the petition, made available to newsmen in Umuahia on Tuesday, that some members of the community were still missing since the military invasion. The unknown whereabouts of community members has caused an increased fear they might have been murdered and their bodies taken away by the invaders along with the IPOB members.

The communities charged the army should be mandated to produce their traditional ruler, whom has not been seen since the army’s invasion of hishome.

They also demanded full compensation for the desecration of the palace and the return of household belongings allegedly taken away from the palace by the soldiers.

The petition partly read, “That since September 14, 2017 the whereabouts of one of our traditional ruler, HRH Eze I. O. Kanu, and members of his family, including some members of Isiama Afaraukwu community, are still unknown.
