NGO Bill: Reps To Hold Public Hearing

The House of Representatives is going ahead with the bill to regulate the activities of Non-Governmental Organisations and Civil Society Organisations.

The House decision comes irrespective of the vehement opposition to the bill by some individuals and groups.

The bill, seeks to regulate NGOs, comprising providing regulations for their registration, funding and the use of foreign consultants by certain aid donors and organisations supporting humanitarian services in the country.https://www.naijanews.com

The piece of legislation is sponsored by the Deputy Leader of the House, Mr. Buba Jibril,

The proposed bill has passed second reading and is due for a public hearing.

The bill has sparked a lot of controversies as some Nigerians, including a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, opposed it on the grounds that its objective was to stifleNGOs and CSOs.
