Why I said “I belong to everybody, belong to nobody,” says Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed why he said “I belong to everybody and belong to nobody” during his swearing in after he won the 2015 presidential election.
President Buhari, who is on a two-day working visit in Kano, spoke at a state dinner held in his honour in Kano on Wednesday.
Buhari commended the people of the state for their unflinching support since he joined politics in 2002, adding that Kano has remained his stronghold.
The president said, “My problem is Nigeria and I have been involved in almost all the instability Nigeria experienced – the civil war, the coups and counter- coups.
“That was why I said during my swearing- in that ‘I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody’.”
Buhari therefore, hailed Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on his good works and development in the state, calling on others political office holders to emulate him.
“He is a great politician and I am afraid I am still learning,” Buhari praised Ganduje.
The president also reassured Nigerians of his unrelenting effort to serve the nation.
