-Israel and Palestine have been long locked in disagreement over the ownership of Jerusalem.

Trump supports Isreal’s decision to take over Jerusalem.

President Donald Trump of the United States has on Wednesday, announced his decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Though his decision has met with criticisms from the Palestinian leaders, it has sparked joy in Israel but the city of Jerusalem itself has remained calm.

“I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” Trump said.

The US President however reiterated his resolve to pursue lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.

“The US remains deeply committed to helping facilitate a peace agreement that is acceptable to both sides,” he said.

“I intend to do everything in my power to help forge such an agreement.”

Previous presidents of the  United States have for long tried to remain neutral in the ownership debate over Jerusalem by Israel and Palestine by refusing to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
