World awaits winner of 2017 Ballon d’Or.

Portuguese and Real Madrid super star, Christiano Ronaldo is in line to defend his Ballon d’Or crown when the 2017 winner is announced later today.

Ronaldo won the last award to take his tally to 4, just one short of his arch rival, Lionel Messi who has 5 wins and is also in contention for this year’s award.

Between them, the star duo have accounted for the 9 of the prestigious individual award and are set to take the tally to 10 when the eventual winner is announced.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony is set to take place in Paris on Thursday (today) around 18:00 UK time.

The award is voted for by a group of 173 journalists from around the world.

Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane has also backed his star player to once again scoop the award ahead of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

“Ronaldo’s human, just like us but he is very different at times. He has no limits, really.”

“The fact that he’s going to win his fifth Ballon d’Or explains that. It’s just amazing. He deserves it as well. I’m sure Cristiano is going to win his fifth Ballon d’Or.

“It doesn’t surprise me. He wants more and more. He has the ambition to win a sixth or a seventh.”
