Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu’s trial postponed till February 20, 2018

The Abuja Federal High Court, has postponed the trial on the treasonable felony charge against the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, till Febraury 20, 2018.

Trial Justice Binta Nyako on Monday, adjourned the case after the Federal Government informed the court of the absence of its prosecution’s counsel, Mr. Shuaibu Labaran.

Labaran is at present attending a seminar outside the nation.

Hence, in a letter addressed to the court, the prosecution counsel applied for the case to be adjourned till 2018 in order  to enable the standing sureties (Emmanu El- Salom Oka BenMadu, Tochukwu Uchendu, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe) for the IPOB leader whose whereabouts is still unknown, to produce him in court.

The missing IPOB leader was granted bail on health grounds in April, but had since disappeared after his residence was allegedly invaded by men of the Nigerian Army.

Naija News recalls that Justice Nyako had on April 25, ordered that Kanu be on bail after he had spent a year and seven months in detention.

The IPOB leader who was released on health grounds has since his bail been at large as his whereabouts are unknown, following the invasion of his Abia home allegedly by Nigerian Army soldiers.

The Nigerian Army had however on several occasions denied the accusations, insisting that Kanu was not in their custody.

Kanu is standing trial alongside three others, David Nwawuisi, Benjamin Madubugwu, and Chidebere Onwudiewe, before the Justice Nyako, over alleged treasonable felony offences.

Meanwhile, Abaribe has appealed to the court to pay a visit to Kanu’s invaded Abia state home.
