Petroleum scarcity has hit some parts of Lagos and Ogun states as many filling stations visited have no products, New Telegraph reports.
Naija News learnt that the Ojodu axis of Lagos, only NNPC station was seen selling fuel as other petrol stations were locked and in Akute area of Ogun state, most petrol stations were shut.
Already, cost of transportation has doubled in the areas visited, according to New Telegraph.
The Independent Petroleum Markers Association of Nigeria, Lagos state chapter, had threatened to shut down over 900 filling stations in Lagos and Ogun following NNPC’s undersupply of Premium Motor Spirit to its members.
IPMAN alleged that the NNPC was not only undersupplying its members with PMS, it was also frustrating them by reneging on the bulk purchase agreement it signed with its members to supply the product to them at N133.28k per litre.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said again there was no plan to increase the prices of petroleum products both at the ex-depot level and pump price ahead of the forthcoming yuletide.
But in its reaction, the NNPC in a statement on Monday, December 4 said that the ex-depot petrol price of N133.38 per litre and the pump price of N143/N145 per litre had not changed.
The corporation noted that it has enough stock of fuel to ensure seamless supply and distribution of products across the country.
While enjoining motorists and other users of petroleum products to disregard trending rumours of an impending fuel price hike in some online news platforms, the NNPC said it has the full commitment of all downstream stakeholders including petroleum marketers and industry unions to cooperate in achieving zero fuel scarcity this season and beyond.
The statement by NNPC spokesman Ndu Ughamadu enjoined motorists not to engage in panic buying or indulge in the dangerous practice of stocking petroleum products in jerry cans at home.
The corporation noted that its downstream subsidiary companies namely the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) and NNPC Retail Limited are fully geared up to ensure that motorists enjoy uninterrupted access to petrol throughout
