1. 2019:  Ex-VP Atiku returns to PDP, Makarfi says ‘I may contest’

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday announced his return to the Peoples Democratic Party.

He made the announcement in a live Facebook broadcast.

Atiku was among notable politicians who left the PDP in 2014 to form an alliance that transformed into the All Progressives Congress.

2. Angry Mob chases SARS operatives for shooting Lagos youth

The Hashtag #EndSARS has been trending on social media after men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Command, allegedly shot a youth in the Yaba area of the state.

The criticism followed a viral video which showed an angry mob chasing a black bus used by the operatives.

Twitter user, Charley, had posted about the shooting on his handle @yabakid, but did not indicate the exact location in Yaba or the identity of the victim.

3. I’m still entitled to $800m compensation, says Kanu

 Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, has said that despite being granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja where he is being prosecuted alongside others on charges of treasonable felony, he is still entitled to the $800m compensation for his alleged unlawful arrest and detention in 2015.

4. IBB, Jonathan reject PDP governors choice for chair

There are moves to checkmate some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors pushing to install the party’s chairman at Saturday’s convention, sources said at the weekend.

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is leading the plan to put former Interim Chairman Uche Secondus on the much coveted seat.

But former military President Ibrahim Babangida, some PDP  founding fathers, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) may have teamed up to block the governors whose ranks may have been broken.

5. SSANU, NAAT begin indefinite strike

Normal life and academic activities in Nigeria’s universities will be disrupted by workers’ industrial action from today.The three non-academic staff unions have declared a trade dispute over failure of government to keep to the terms of its own agreement with the workers.

6. Unilorin releases 2017/2018 admission list for undergraduates

The management of the University of Ilorin has announced the official release of its admission list for the 2017/2018 academic session.

According to a terse statement obtained by Naija News, prospective candidates can now logon to the University’s admission portal to check their names.

7. Forex reserves gain $455m in one week amid intervention

The nation’s foreign exchange (forex) reserves sustained a 13-month weekly winning streak, adding $455 million in one week despite interventions in the market, shoring it up to $34.82 billion.

The development signals an assurance of Nigeria’s ability to honour its international obligations and a boost to foreign investors, who took a flight to safety in the wake of the country’s foreign currency earning crisis caused by oil price volatility.

8. ASUU Strike: Ambode and Yahaya Bello speak from both sides of their mouth

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nsukka Zone, reacted to what they described as the consistent exhibition of the power of a one-eyed monster by the Governors of Kogi State University (KSU) and the Lagos State University (LASU), governors Yahaya Bello and Akinwunmi Ambode, respectively.
