FRSC advises motorists drive carefully this festive season

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Marshal, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi has called on Nigerians to assist in ridding the nation’s highways of accidents.

Oyeyemi made the call on Tuesday in Lokoja, Kogi State, during the opening of the 2017 sectoral workshop of the Kogi State Special Marshal Unit, disclosing the need for the corporate organisations, civil society and individuals to express more concern for safety on the roads.

Represented at the workshop by the  state sector commander of the FRSC, Mr. Segun Martins,Oyeyemi also pleaded with motorists to desist from speeding as well as overloading and adhere to other safety rules, sa as to reduce oad accidents.

Speaking on the event’ theme; “Life is a right and not a privilege,” the Corps Marshal expressed that the theme was very appropriate, hence so passengers should report any defaulting driver to the nearest FRSC office for necessary action.

In her address, the Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Mrs Folashade Ayoade, praised the special marshals for discharging their duties efficiently in the state. She however, enjoined them intensify their efforts.

She lamented the increased rate of road crashes along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja road, and charged the FRSC to take charge of the situation.

She also called on the FRSC to continue to enforce the constant use of seat belts and other safety rules to decrease road crashes.

The Chairman, Special Marshal Unit, Kogi State, Mr. Henry Adeyemi, while delivering his welcome speech, charged the management of the FRSC  to provide the urgently needed kits for his members as well as means of identification.

He added that the plans are ongoing to extend the services of the unit to other major towns in the state and urged motorists to drive with care this festive season.
