Herdsmen arraigned for alleged rape of pregnant woman.

A Fulani herdsman, Umaru Easyam, has been remanded in prison by a chief magistrate court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, for allegedly raping a pregnant woman.

Naija News gathered that the accused was the second herdsmen to be prosecuted in the past one week for criminal offences.

The chief magistrate, Isaac Ajim ordered that the accused be remanded till February 20, 2018 for further hearing.

Information obtained from Punch reveals that on November 21, 2018, the same court had remanded a 30-year-old herdsman, Gambo Muhammed, in prison for alleged culpable homicide, causing grievous hurt, criminal conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms.

The Prosecuting Officer, Sergeant Godwin Ato, at Friday mention, said that the accused who claimed to come from Tse-Ikyer Mbakyoondo village in the state, was arrested for alleged rape of a pregnant housewife, name withheld.

Ato told the court that the victim’s husband, in the company of Civilian Joint Task Force members in the area had on the 20th of November arrested and brought the accused to Naka Police Station.

The complainant said the accused abandoned his cows and raped his wife who was returning from the farm.

Naija News learnt that no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction, at the time the case came up for hearing while the prosecutor said investigation was underway and asked for another date.

The counsel to the accused Mr T. A Ahmed, therefore, said he would apply for the bail of his client.
