Anambra citizens on Saturday, November 18, came out in large numbers to vote their next governor.

Thirtyseven candidates are contesting for governorship position, but many believe it is a three horse race between incumbent Governor Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obaze Oseloka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Osita Chidoka of the United Progressive Party(UPP.

Anambra state has a total of 2,158,171 registered voters; 330 Registration Areas (RAs); 5000 Polling Units (PUs); accross the 326 political wards in the 21 local government areas of the state

A total of 21,084 police officers were deployed across the state to ensure peace and security during the polls, while 44 observer groups were accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as election monitors.

In most polling units, Naija News reporters observed the election were peaceful and INEC officials were seen setting up ballot boxes at various centres in Awka as early as 7.45am.
