The Nigerian Police has arrested and detained six officers of the anti-kidnap and anti-cultism unit of the force.

The suspects who belong to the Cross River police command are being detained at the Police Headquarters in Calabar.

The police officers were accused of killing six suspects who had allegedly kidnapped a business woman in Ikom LGA, Daily Post reported.

The 6 officer had been deployed from Calabar to Ikom to rescue the abducted lady following the demand of a 50 million naira ransom by the kidnappers.

Naij News gathered that abductors were apprehended by the detained Police Officers alive, after which they were taken to Ikom Police station for parade, and later taken back to the forest and murdered.

However, the arrested police officers laimced the suspected kidnappers engaged them in a gun battle.

Daily Post reported that a top ranking police source intimated that the Commissioner of Police, Inuwa Hafiz alleged the six officers of extra judicial killing.

Meanwhile, a calabar news media reported the Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Ugbo to have confirmed the arrest and detention of the policemen.
