The Super Eagles of Nigeria have finished their World Cup qualifier with no defeat as they played out a 1-1 draw against Algeria on Friday night in Constantine.

John Ogu with a wonder strike gave Nigeria the lead in the 62nd minute before Algeria pulled level late from the penalty spot.

The Eagles had 14 points from six games; winning four and drawing two.

There was little to cheer in the first 45 minutes though Super Eagles enjoyed more of the ball possession on a bitterly cold night in Constantine.

In the 15th minute, debutant Anthony Nwakaeme tried a shot from distance, but it was too weak to trouble the goalkeeper and moments later, the Israel-based striker failed to connect home a cross from inside the box.

In the 41st minute, John Ogu was booked for a late tackle on his way to the Algeria goal.

Nwakaeme could have given Nigeria the lead in the 43rd minute when he turned sharply inside the box before firing at goal, but goalkeeper Chaouch made a smart, first-time save.

Second half

Iwobi two minutes after the restart had a good chance but he was let down by his crossing.

Moments later, the Arsenal man forced a save from the Algeria goalie with a left-footed volley.

Nigeria finally took the lead in the 62nd minute, when an Ogu curler off a poor clearance beat Algeria goalkeeper Faouzi Chaouchi hands down.

However, Algeria equalised rather controversially in the 87th minute from the penalty spot through Yacine Brahimi after the referee adjudged that Shehu Abdullahi tried to foul the goal-bound Algeria skipper.

With the qualifiers now done and dusted, next stop for the Eagles is Tuesday’s international friendly against Argentina in Russia
