UniAbuja gets accreditation of medical school

UniAbuja gets approval to graduate medical students.

The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has been granted approval from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to prepare its medical students for the final MBBS examinations.

The Acting Registrar of the council, Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, in a statement said the approval followed the final accreditation visit to the university by the MDCN on November 1, 2017.

Naija News gathered that this approval came after the university commenced its medical school in 2005 and has since witnessed crises over the non-accreditation of its courses.

Sanusi said that the situation changed two years ago with the provision of required facilities which led to the approval by the MDCN.

The council said the university can proceed with the processes leading to the final MBBS examinations for its students, directing that the institution “must notify council to send observers to the examinations at the appropriate time.”

Similarly, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the interim accreditation of the Computer Science and Microbiology courses of the university.

Dr. Noel B. Saliu, the NUC Director of Accreditation, said this while giving the commission’s updated review of the May/June 2017 accreditation results to the university.

He said the interim accreditation status was valid for two years after which the programmes would be revisited.
