11,000 pupils have benefited from the cash transfer of the FG in Niger State.

About 11,000 pupils are beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) scheme in Niger State, an official disclosed today, Thursday.

The initiative is being implemented in 12 local government areas in the state, with the assistance of the state government and UNCEF.

Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Education, Alhaji Yahaya Garba, made the revelation to journalists in Minna.

Garba said the scheme was created to support out-of-school children in pursuing their education.

He added that in the last two years, the N360 million has been spent in running the scheme, with each pupil receiving N5, 000 stipend quarterly and N20,000 per academic session.

Also, Garba said Niger government has approved N50 million as its counterpart funding to start the second phase of the scheme in six additional local government areas.

The six local Local government areas are: Gbako, Agaie, Rafi, Munya, Mariga and Mashegum.

The permanent secretary stated that as soon as the state resources improve, the government would improve the programme to reach more local government areas to enhance enrollment of children into schools.
