Insecurity: Creating State Police Will Be A Mistake – Ex-IGP Idris

-IGP Ibrahim Idris to appear before Senate out of respect.

-The police boss has been accused of fraud by Sen. Isah Misau.

IGP Ibrahim Idris to discuss appearing before the senate with his legal team.

The Inspector General of police, Ibrahim Idris, has finally agreed to honour the invitation extended to him by the senate committee set up to investigate allegations levelled against him.

Senator Isah Misau, (APC, Bauchi central), had accused the police chief of illegally obtaining money from banks and oil firms.

The Senator also accused Idris of having illicit sexual affairs with some female officers as well as granting special promotion and posting to certain officers.

The Police Inspector General, has however denied all allegations levelled against him and challenged the matter in court.

Idris had previously refused to appear before the investigative panel set up by the Senate, citing that the case was already pending before a court of law.

But addressing state house correspondents on Friday after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Idris said he would appear for the “sake of having respect for the senate”.

“We are discussing with our legal team. Obviously, if there is need, we are going to appear for the sake of having respect for the Senate. I will appear before them,” he said.
