3 men remanded in police custody over armed robbery

A Magistrates’ Court in Minna, Niger State, has on Thursday ordered the remand of three men for accused of armed robbery.

The suspects -Muhammadu Sirajo, Saleh Buba and Lawali Muhammadu- are standing trial on a 2 counts of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Danladi, informed the court that the defendants were apprehended on Oct. 25, by the police, sequel to a tip off by a reliable source.

Danladi noted that the defendants had conspired with six others, now at large, to rob some passengers of their property along Wamba Road in Magama Local Government Area.

He added that they admitted to committing the crime during police investigation

The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code.

Declining to take the plea of the defendants, Magistrate Fati Auna said the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Auna pronounced that the police forwards the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Consequently, she adjourned the case until December 5 for further mention, while remanding the accused in police custody.
