Monkey Pox: Kebbi Govt embarks on sensitisation of residents

Kebbi government mobilises health workers to sensitise residents.

Health workers have assembled across the 21 Local Government Areas of the Kebbi State to tackle monkey pox virus suspected to have spread to Kano State.

The initiative was organized by the Kebbi State Government’s in order to prevent the spread of the virus in the state.

Speaking on the proactive measure put in place, the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Umar Uthman Kambasa on Wednesday, said the health workers have been directed to sensitise residents across the state on the symptoms monkey pox.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Hajia Halima Dikko, Kambasa revealed the information to newsmen in the state adding that if symptoms are discovered, residents should contact the nearest health centre.

He said: ” We have prepared our health workers, officers on the existence problem, that is monkey pox. We have prepared them to know that,really,the monkey pox is real. That is,it exist in other States and we should be on alert.

” We have instructed our health officers to start sensitise our people about the monkey pox symptoms such as rashes, fever. That, if they observed any of these symptoms on any sick person, they should quickly inform the nearest health workers in their areas. They will respond promptly and verify the patient status”.

The Commissioner noted that ‘its Isolated Centre for any outbreak of disease located in Kangiwa Local Government Area is nearing completin.

He emphasized that the government would leave no stone unturned to safeguard Kebbi residents.

He cautioned people of the state against eating rodents suspected to be host of monkey pox and ensure that they are drinking clean water. He also enjoined them to practice good hygien by keeping their environment very clean.
