Sambo Dasuki buys himself more time before testifying in the ongoing case against Olisah Metuh due to claims of ‘memory loss’.

Former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) on Wednesday appeared in court but failed to testify in the ongoing trial a former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisah Metuh.

Ahmed Raji, Dasuki’s counsel, had sought the relief of the court to allow his client study relevant documents before testifying in court due to a loss of memory.

According to Raji, after about two years in DSS custody, Dasuki needs access to “relevant files, records and documents required to refresh his memory of any decisions or actions he took or authorised in the course of his duties”.

He, therefore, asked the presiding judge to “tarry a while” in the course of the proceeding pending the determination of his client’s appeal in the case.

Emeka Etiaba, Metuh’s counsel, did not object to the plea from Dasuki’s lawyer.

He said the former National Security Adviser, needs additional time to go through available documents and records on the case.

Metuh, is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged money laundering, and had requested both Jonathan and Dasuki appear as his witnesses.

Both Jonathan and Dasuki were absent at the last sitting, prompting the judge to give the bailiff five days to serve them the summons to appear in the next sitting.

After failing to appear the first time he was summoned, former presidnet, Goodluck Jonathan has asked Metuh to pay the sum of N1 billion for logistics and travelling expenses for himself and his aides to enable him testify as requested.
