Spanish giants, Real Madrid, let go of a one goal lead to eventually loose 2-1 to Girona in a La Liga match played on Sunday.

Real Madrid suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Girona on Sunday to leave them trailing 8 points behind Barcelona with 10 games of the season so far played.

 

Isco’s 12th minutes opener had put Real Madrid in the lead but second half goals from Cristhian Stuani and Portu ensured Madrid went home empty handed as Girona claims 3 valuable points at the expense of the defending champions.

“We know we can turn this around. We will have better days and our rivals will lose points over the course of the season.”

“There is nothing more we can do, and we know that sooner or later things will turn. There is a long way to go and I am not worried.” said coach Zinedine Zidane after the loss.

“We played very well and hit the post twice in the first-half,” said match winner Portu.

“We knew that if we continued to press them hard as a team then you get your rewards in football.”

Real Madrid midfielder, Casemiro, talked up the chances of the team after the loss but warned against giving up too soon.

 

“We can’t make excuses,” Madrid midfielder Casemiro told BeIN Sports Spain.

“We have to keep our heads because it is a difficult moment.

“We still have a chance but we need to play better and work harder. Madrid are always obliged to win.”
