Buhari considers panel report on Babachir Lawal, Ayo Oke, sacks both officials.

President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the previously suspended Babachir Lawal, as the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).

The President also terminated the appointment of the Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke.

A statement released by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, confirmed both sackings and the appointment of Boss Mustapha, as the new secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).

Adesina said Buhari fired Lawal in line with the recommendation of the panel set up to probe the allegations levelled against him.

Buhari’s silence after receiving the report of the panel that indicted both officials, headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo since August had drawn criticisms from various quarters, especially from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“President Muhammadu Buhari has studied the report of the panel headed by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, which investigated allegations against the suspended secretary to the government of the federation, Mr Babachir David Lawal, and the director-general, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke,” the statement read.
