The ruling All Progressives Congress party, (APC) has shifted its much anticipated national convention until the first quarter of 2018.

The change in date was communicated by the party’s  National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, while addressing journalists on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the APC mouthpiece however, the party’s National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) would hold as planned next week.

“I can tell you that the convention is not going to take place until the first quarter of next year. There will not be any implosion or explosion because we are not going to invite Boko Haram to the convention.

“Let me emphasise that we have not decided on the date of the convention because we have to hold NEC meeting that will agree on a date and agenda for the convention,” Abdullahi said.

The ruling party had been postponing the conduct of its convention since the March 24, 2016 NEC meeting, where it was resolved that the party’s constitution should be amended.

The inability of the party to hold its convention as well as some other statutory meetings has left many of its members disgruntled and feeling sidelined with some going as far as calling for the de-registration of the party.

Though no official reason was given for the postponement, information obtained by Naija News revealed the party’s decision might be connected to funding challenges as well as fears that the convention might provide a platform to initiate a surprise change in the party’s leadership structure.
