NEMA workers call off strike, resume duties nationwide

-The dispute between the management of NEMA and the agency staff has been resolved.

-The resolution was achieved following a meeting summoned by the minister of labour, Dr. Chris Ngige.

Workers of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have ended their warning strike occasioned by the face off between the agency’s staff and its management after a meeting with the federal government delegation.

Workers of the agency had downed tools over what they described as the insensitivity of the management to the plight and working conditions of the staff.

A statement signed by the head of public affairs, NEMA, Alh. Sani Datti, disclosed the strike was called off following a meeting convened by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige in Abuja, with the NEMA Management, led by Director General, Engr. Mustapha Maihaja and representatives of the national body of the Labour Union, represented by the National President of Trade Union Congress, Secretary General of the Association of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, FCT leaders of NLC and Nigeria Civil Service Union.

“The industrial dispute between the management and staff of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have been resolved yesterday, Thursday, 19th October, 2017.” He said.

“The disputes which resulted in the closure of the NEMA offices nationwide was resolved immediately following a meeting convened by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige in Abuja with the NEMA Management led by Director General, Mustapha Maihaja and representatives of the national body of the Labour Union represented by the National President of Trade Union Congress, Secretary General of the Association of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, FCT leaders of NLC and Nigeria Civil Service Union.

“Among the issues discussed were matters relating to the staff welfare and other areas of misunderstanding which were fully resolved with timeline for implementation to be closely monitored by the Minister of labour and productivity.

Recall the workers of the agency, had on Thursday 19th October 2017, embarked on a three-day warning strike.
